NEW YORK, January 4, 2012–fordPROJECT is pleased to announce a group exhibition entitled Opulent Vision. This exhibition brings together a group of artists who have been a part of fordPROJECT’s first year and introduces the work of artists who are new to the exhibition program. Opulent Vision will be on view from January 17th through February 17th, 2012. There will be an opening reception on Tuesday, January 17th from 6-8pmat fordPROJECT, 57 W 57 floors 19-20.
Opulent Vision includes a collection of works that highlight many parallels of the contemporary cultural landscape. Spanning across disciplines from painting to sculpture to conceptual works on paper, the exhibition provides a look at a selection of fordPROJECT's inaugural a roster of artists, with the debut of new voices. Opulent Vision presents unique perspectives that reflect historical ceremonies, mythical lands, and unique architectural environments. The exhibition will fill the gallery’s penthouse space with vivid colors, rich wallpaper, paintings of inspired interiors, and a site-specific installation. Artists in Opulent Vision previously on view at fordPROJECT include Lisha Bai, Alessandro Belgiojoso, Kent Henricksen, and Naama Tsabar. fordPROJECT is pleased to introduce new artists Annika Connor, Kristen Schiele and Veronica Smirnoff.
Also on view is the video program What One Sees Is Not Seen, curated by Alfredo Hertzog. In the presentation, Hertzog brings together a selection of videos to exemplify the ways in which contemporary artists approach various forms of presentation. Works range from the dream-like imagery of Pipilotti Rist, to the politically fueled films of Mateo Maté and Hans Op de Beeck. Other artists include Mauricio Alejo, Adriana Bustos, Cabello/Carcelle, Filipa César, Goldiechiari, Cao Guimareas, Kaoru Katayama, Jorge Macchi, Antoni Muntadas, and Kamen Stoyanov.
The opening of Opulent Vision also marks the second installment of the ongoing collaboration between fordPROJECT and BLACKLOTS. A selection of artworks from BLACKLOTS’ inventory will be on view to enhance and complement fordPROJECT’s exhibition program.
As part of the ongoing commitment to collaborative initiatives, fordPROJECT is pleased to invite Forever and Today, Inc. to present New York artist Jack Early's new installation, Winter to Spring 1993. In the upstairs solarium, the installation includes a new wall assemblage, and sculpture entitled Smoking Mad Paul, 2012. Winter to Spring 1993 reflects on the storied pop culture lore of John Lennon's contentious relationship with Paul McCartney and the Beatles' Apple Records venture. The work also serves as a loose parallel to Early's previous experience as the art collaborative Pruitt-Early, and the eventual collapse of this relationship in 1994.
fordPROJECT will continue to present f/P Editions in the Upstairs Project Space. Works by Lisha Bai, Jason Gringler, Kent Henricksen, Shin il Kim, Stephen Posen, Manuela Paz, Stephen J Shanabrook & Veronika Georgieva and Zdravko Toic will be on view and available for purchase online.

Beginning in November 2011, through the spring 2012 season, fordPROJECT will be incorporating BLACKLOTS’ art inventory into its curatorial program to create a hybrid art buying experience. The collaboration between auction company and commercial gallery creates a new perspective marking the future of how a viewer can experience and acquire artwork.
